Overview
A full walkthrough of the Depth of Market and Tape window — every column, every top-bar button, and the settings panel below, from a trader who relies on this window daily.
What's covered
- Read the DOM columns left to right — the period profile is a mini volume profile per price level, followed by the bid order book (resting limit buys), market sell orders eating into those bids, the price column, market buy orders eating into asks, and the ask order book.
- The bid/ask profile column — an optional column that accumulates without resetting, unlike the buy/sell columns, which clear periodically.
- Set the tick size — determines how many exchange ticks separate each DOM row: wider spacing means less scrolling but coarser detail.
- Autocenter and Center — Autocenter keeps price recentered automatically as it moves; Center manually recenters the last traded price on the bid/ask profile column.
- Clear — wipes the accumulated buy/sell order data from the book, so you start reading the columns from empty.
- Pull and stack — tracks orders being pulled (removed) from a price level versus stacked (added), colored oppositely (e.g., orange for pulling, green for stacking) so a level visibly strengthening or weakening jumps out without reading raw numbers.
- Use the clear-above / clear-below workflow — the presenter's actual support/resistance routine: at a support level, clear everything above the best ask to see incoming orders cleanly against a blank book; at resistance, clear everything below the best bid — removing clutter from price's approach so only the reaction at the level itself is visible.
- Read the tape — shows individual filled orders (time, price, size) as they print; larger orders are color-highlighted, but the video is explicit that a large print is not necessarily a new position — it could be one part of a larger order, or a position closing rather than opening.
- Max bid/ask rows — a commonly misunderstood setting: showing the entire order book depth isn't automatically better; the video argues for keeping only the price levels closest to current price visible, since distant levels add noise rather than actionable information.
- Filter trades by size — filters small or large trades out of view, using the same filtering logic across the DOM, tape, bid/ask profile, and pull/stack columns.
- Set the DOM colors — tiered profile filter colors let you color standout order sizes distinctly from routine ones, so size differences read at a glance.
