Exocharts comes in two versions: a web platform you open in a browser, and a desktop application you install. This article covers what the web platform does, how it differs from the desktop version, and which one to reach for.
What the Web Platform Is
The web platform is the orderflow charting engine running in a browser tab. Footprint clusters, volume and delta profiles, POC and value area, TPO, REKT liquidations, open interest, VWAP and the FPBS statistics block are all there, on live exchange data, with no installation and nothing to configure on your machine.
It shares your Exocharts account with the desktop application, so your subscription, profile and saved screenshots are the same on both.
Web or Desktop
The web platform is built for reading a chart. The desktop application is built for working in one all day.
The difference comes from where the data is processed. The web platform receives data prepared by our servers, which keeps it light enough to run in a browser. The desktop application processes trades locally, which is what makes the DOM, the tape, replay and the non-time candle types possible, and why it carries more instruments and deeper history.
Use the web platform when you want a chart quickly, on a machine that is not yours, or where installing software is awkward. Use the desktop application when the chart is where you spend your session. Most traders use both.
