Overview

A deeper pass on TPO-specific reference structures beyond the basics: single prints, tails, and the initial balance — the patterns experienced TPO readers actually scan a profile for.

What's covered

  • Single prints — a price level with only one TPO letter printed — the market spent minimal time there, usually because price moved through quickly in one direction. A run of single prints is often read as a low-acceptance zone the market didn't want to spend time in, making it a candidate reference level if price returns.
  • Tails — a single print (or short run of them) at the very top or bottom of the session's range — a rejection signature, similar in spirit to a candlestick wick, showing price probed a level and was quickly rejected rather than accepted.
  • Initial balance (IB) — the range established in the first period(s) of the session (commonly the first hour on a 30-minute TPO), used as a baseline for reading the rest of the day — whether the session stays inside, extends beyond, or reverses through the IB range is a core piece of the day's structural read.
  • IB stats — the initial balance high, low, and range are surfaced as their own statistics (also available in MP Statistics), letting you quantify how wide or narrow the opening range was relative to typical days.
  • Reading these together — single prints and tails mark where the session rejected price; the initial balance marks where the session started and how far it's traveled from there — used together, they build a structural read of the day beyond just POC and value area.
